Life has its ups and downs and a way many of us try to alleviate the downs is through the incidental use of sugar. For some of us it might be a chocolate bar or for me it used to be ice cream – mmm, sweet delicious ice cream. But then I got smart and turned to healthier options like fruit juice, but uh oh, that has nearly thesame amount of sugar as a can of coca cola, over 6 teaspoons! Ok, what about a Yoghurt Sesame snap (I used to love those snacks)? No way - that has more sugar than a two serve of tim tams, over 4 teaspoons!! Now here’s one for you parents out there that I saw at my son’s daycare; Yoplait Petit squeezie for 6mths+ containing healthy calcium for bone growth. Shockingly it has over 2 teaspoons of added sugar. This is when I knew something needs to be done to educate us and that is exactly why I interviewed world renowned actor, director and self experimenter of the award winning documentary “That Sugar Film”, Damon Gameau. In this episode of TheEdTalks Damon sheds some light on the sticky world of sugar and how his self experimentation almost caused irreversible damage to his body and what we can do to try and reverse some of the seriously damaging and energy draining side effects of having excess refined sugar in our diets.
Tweet: Why one man punished his body with sugar @thatsugarfilm @damongameau explains in Ep30.
The ground work of all happiness is good health - Leigh Hunt.
Intro song “1975” by Josh Kirsch
Outro song “The Sugar Blues” by Eddie Donato
