Two spies, Victor and Countess Sarah, have kidnapped a brilliant scientist, Professor John Henry, to force him into revealing the formula for an immensely powerful explosive he has invented. Despite Victor’s brutal methods, including having his henchman Ivan whip Henry, the professor refuses to divulge the secret.
Desperate, Victor switches to Plan B: kidnapping a psychiatrist, Dr. Waldeck, to unlock Henry's damaged mind. However, Dr. Waldeck also refuses to cooperate. What Victor and Countess Sarah don’t realize is that Waldeck has an unexpected connection—he is an acquaintance of Lamont Cranston, who secretly operates as The Shadow.
