In recent times we see that there is a narrative being painted that the Ottoman state was not Islamic, it didn't implement the Shariah and was never truly a Caliphate. In fact, we see allegations being made about the Ottomans such as that they committed shirk, introduced fratricide, legalised homosexuality, among others. And a controversial aspect regarding these allegations is that, these claims are being made by fellow Muslims.
So in order to understand the reality of these allegations and differentiate between fact and fiction, I am joined by Ottoman historian, Dr Yakoob Ahmed to provide some clarity on the matter.
Dr Yakoob Ahmed is one of the Muslim world’s leading Ottoman historians, and is currently teaching Islamic history at Istanbul University.
