The origin of Labor Day is the conflict between elites and the labor class. Those that take versus those that struggle to make ends meet. What we learn from this history, however, is even at the peak of the activist struggle of Labor against the machine, the labor rallies always ended in picnics and celebration... labor reminded the world that no one could steel their joy.
