So, Tiff and I were in the middle of an epic rant (or at least a moderately hilarious one), when we had the idea to turn our mics on and record our indignation. We know you’re going to get a lot of value out of this. Or if not, at the very least a bit of good, at times not so clean entertainment.
Basically, we’ve had enough of endless accusations, disguised as “motivation.”
Tiffanee came across yet another chest beating, self-aggrandising, motivational tip. This one subtly implying that if you want success, you must sacrifice sleep, because you can’t really have both. This person also had a magic time to start your day, 4:00 am. Any later than that and basically you’re a slothful loser.
Now I habitually wake up for work at 4:30am (just missed success by 30 minutes) and I love it. I love the way it feels when time seems to stand still before my corner of the world awakens and I can be alone with my thoughts. However, I know some highly successful people who also value achievement, who sleep in to 6:00 am or later. Is it because they don’t value “the hustle?” Or, maybe they value other things as well. Such as: Learning, creativity, a sharp memory, elevated mood, vitality, improved decision making, focus, concentration and attention. You know, all the attributes indispensable to success. Regardless of what you value and aspire to be, have or do, which on of those attributes can you afford to sacrifice? While proper quality as well as quantity of sleep enhances all of them, lack of sleep results in their impairment.
If you function in a sustained state of cognitive and emotional impairment that slowly eats away at your quality of life, can you really be defined as successful?
Tiffanee and I believe that empowered with the right resources and information, no one will make a better decision regarding your life, and your rituals, than you. We also believe that you don’t need to be fixed by some pseudo self-help guru, you’re not broken. What do you think?
