Want to raise kids who aren't spoiled? Start with serving others!
Our family spent three days in Mexico building a house for a family in need. It wasn’t huge or fancy, but it was a huge step for those who’ve never had a safe place to call home. The experience taught my kids the value of hard work and compassion. They used tools, painted walls, and even climbed on roofs. I was amazed at their courage to try new things and the joy they found in helping others.
It’s about more than just labor; it’s about showing my kids that giving back is essential. We had our fears, but we did it scared and building relationships along the way. And that's the lesson I want them to carry forward.
Looking for ways to help? Start small. Volunteer at a food bank or join community projects. Every little bit counts!
Here's how our family built a house together partnering with Yugo ministries: https://www.yugo.org/
You can also go to some other great local food banks with kids or search a spot by you to start small! Here are a few we have helped serve:
Second Harvest Food Bank: https://www.shfb.org/
Feeding San Diego: https://feedingsandiego.org/
Tag someone who needs this inspiration or you want to volunteer with! 🙌
Let’s raise a generation that values service over self. 💪
