Some things were important to us and then they stopped, some were and still are, and some weren't and then they became and are important, and some weren't and then became important and then went back to being unimportant (I think that covers it). 

Well, I always wanted to be a father since I was a kid but then (for various reasons) I decided I didn't want kids (or marriage) and then once I became Catholic I went back to my original desire of wanting to be a father (and a good one). 

Well, after I decided (again) to pursue it, I remember listening to a podcast about fatherhood intensifying for someone and I knew that it would for me one day, too.  

Well, that day has come, my fatherhood has intensified (and probably will again).
