In today's Philosopher Byte, Brene Brown is back to talk about invulnerability.  Brené Brown has spent the last ten years researching courage, shame, and authenticity at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work.

She has authored several books on her study and serves as the Council on Alcohol and Drugs' Behavioral Health Scholar-in-Residence.

In our fearful society, we frequently defend ourselves by cutting off the areas of our lives where we feel most exposed. However, invulnerability has a cost.

We forfeit joy, a crucial resource for managing uncertain times, when we numb ourselves to what we sense threatens us.

Today's talk will examine how and why fear and a generalized lack of resources have gravely hazardous effects on the way we interact with one another in our personal and professional lives, as well as how simple actions might help us rediscover our sense of meaning and purpose.
