Charles Stuart and his pregnant wife Carol DiMaiti were shot on October 23rd, 1989, and Stuart pointed his finger at a black American causing national outrage and racial tension. The story was portrayed as an example of crime running rampant in the city and what could happen to the white, affluent people traveling through "bad neighborhoods,” but the real story was much more sinister.
