Think about the last time you went to a restaurant or sat with your partner on the couch. What do these two have in common? Phones! Phubbing, or phone snubbing, is a growing phenomenon where we spend more time on our phones or electronic devices than we do actually connecting with those around us. Eye contact, verbal communication, attunement to emotions, and physical contact are essential for true, deep connection. Phubbing can leave the other person feeling alone, disconnected, devalued, and unimportant, including with our partner.
Join us as we explore phubbing. In our desire to stay ever connected with the outside world or “check out” for a bit, we lose depth and quality in our relationships nearest to us. By staring at our phones constantly, even while eating or having a conversation, we are communicating to the other person that we do not prioritize them or value what they have to say. In this episode, we offer insights into the true impact phones are having on our relationships, as well as tips to notice and correct our phubbing behaviors. You and your partner deserve better!
Please head on over and check out episode 63, Phubbing Your Partner. If you find this episode, or any of our other episodes, helpful to you, please share with those that you love! Let us know what you think about what you want us to talk about next by emailing us at [email protected]!
In two weeks, we will discuss infertility with Dr. Randi Smith. Later topics include: parenting, self-acceptance, domestic violence, premarital tips for relationship success, navigating milestones as a couple, how to have tough conversations, self-awareness in relationships, and so much more!
