Listen Later

Maria Szymanowska is a composer of Poland, a place with quite a history of its own. Due to the various partitions and the redivision of Poland’s land between other countries, Poland itself has endured a unique struggle. And Maria’s story as a composer, and Poland’s story of struggle and conflict, are naturally interwoven.  And Maria’s Six Marches for Piano, composed following the greatest of these historical events, is a signifier of this connection. Today, The Piano Histories Podcast will share a part of Szymanowska’s story, and tell you the complete history of Maria Szymanowska’s Six Marches for Piano.
