The Read with Carylee Show brings the love of literature to children and gives a peek behind the scenes by evoking the joy of reading, helping children interact with authors, and displaying the hidden talent of these authors who may be living in your community.
In this episode, we are going to read “Good to be Me” by Jessica Parham.
✅ ABOUT THE STORY:
Perfect for homes and elementary school classrooms everywhere, Good To Be Me is a charming and heartwarming picture book your tiny humans would love to get their hands on… a conversation starter explaining truths about inclusion, diversity, kindness, differences, disabilities, and respect.
✅ ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Stay-at-home mom Jessica Parham was inspired to write "Good to Be Me" because of her children. "I have three kids, and they're at the ages where they ask a lot of questions. My younger daughter has blond hair, blue eyes, fair skin and has my shorter stature. And my older daughter is very tall. She has an olive complexion like me, brown hair, brown eyes. And one of my daughters wears glasses and has a little bit of a speech thing, which I find very cute, but they were starting to get a little bit insecure about their differences in each other.
And then they started asking why certain friends had different skin colors and why certain friends might be missing a limb, and we have a lot of different types of friends and a diverse group and community. And so they're asking a lot of why. And so I couldn't find a book that was allowing them to have conversations with me. I didn't want an author to tell my kids what to think. And so I wanted them to be able to ask questions. So I decided to write the book that I couldn't find."
