Ephesians: Things Money Can’t Buy Ephesians 5:1-17: Walking for DummiesDecember 16, 2012Please turn in your Bibles to Ephesians 5:1Vs 1-2: Imitate God’s LoveImitators (mim-ay-tace): to mimic“Fragrant offering” in no way suggests that God was pleased that our sin demanded death, and that this penalty fell upon His Son. What it does mean is that Christ’s death satisfied the requirements of the holy law of God and therefore was accepted by the Father. App: Pursue a kind of love that is best seen in a God kind of forgiveness.Vs 3-14: Imitate God’s LightVs 7: We are not to participate in activities with those who claim to be believers, yet do whatever they want in the name of grace. (ref. Romans 6:1-2, 13-14)Vs 13: God is light and ultimately every secret thing will be exposed.Vs 8: In Him we are light and God is using us to point others toward hope and redemption.Vs 14: Not a call out of a nap, but a call out of the grave. Probably a paraphrase of Psalm 60:1“Arise, shine, for your light has come,and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.” Psalm 60:1 (ref. Romans 13:11-14)App: Pursue the kind of life where your actions are a reflection of the faith you profess.Vs 15-17: Imitate God’s WisdomVs 15: “Walk circumspect”: Lt: “look around”. It’s a picture of walking an unfamiliar path in the dark. Vs 16: “Redeem the time”: buy it back“Because the days are evil”: Evil here doesn’t mean sinister or suspect. It’s a picture of a fortified ancient city under siege. App: Pursue the kind of wisdom that allows you to be about the greater things that God has for you regardless of the cares and pressures of the world.What is God’s Spirit speaking into your life today?
