Did you know that January 27th is National Chocolate Cake Day? Now that's what I call a BATTER celebration! And here's a slice of history - the first chocolate cake wasn't made until 1764, when Dr. James Baker figured out how to grind cocoa beans. You could say he really TOOK THE CAKE with that discovery!
And talk about a NOTEWORTHY birthday - Mozart was born on this day in 1756! He wrote his first piece at age 5, which is pretty impressive considering most kids that age are still learning their ABC's, not their Do-Re-Mi's! He even had a pet starling that could sing part of his concerto - I guess you could say that bird was quite the TWEET composer!
Here's something that'll make you go PAW-SE and think - animals can be left or right-handed! They call it "laterality" in science circles, but I call it getting a GRIP on things! Polar bears are usually lefties, while parrots are RIGHT on board with their left feet. Talk about putting your best foot forward!
Now here's something to get CRACKLING about - the last Monday in January is National Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day! This protective packing material was originally invented to be wallpaper! Talk about POP art! I guess you could say that idea really got WRAPPED up in something bigger!
And here's one last fact that'll make you ROOT for nature - trees communicate through underground fungi networks! Scientists call it the "Wood Wide Web." I guess you could say they're really BRANCHING out with their social network!
And for a trip down memory lane, The #1 song on January 27th 1990 was How Am I Supposed to Live Without You by Michael Bolton.
