As promised, Melissa & Tara have brought a guest of a special nature onto the NTT Pod! Listen in as they continue to pioneer the topic of familial trauma. Encoded in this episode are several talking points that will bring even more awareness to the subject matter discussed in Season 2, Episode 1.  Although this content is “science heavy”, it has strings of many other elements woven throughout to keep listeners engaged. 

Join these women as they metaphorically break out into a “fire side chat” with special guest Angela Mabb, Tara’s long time, childhood best friend.  After flying in to celebrate the high school graduation of Tara’s oldest son, Angie caught wind of & was authentically interested to hear about Tara’s recently, self-published book: Scientific Poetry & Prose: An Abstract Prequel to The Talk and Tales of the Tattooed Women: Rough Draft.  After completing the read on her flight home, Angela reached out to Tara stating that there was much more to talk about.  

In addition to her being known as “Tara’s BFF”, Angela has earned several other, much more notable titles. With an impressive bio, Angela Mabb holds 2 Bachelor degrees in Chemistry & Bio-Molecular Science, earned her PhD in Cellular & Molecular Pharmacology, her postdoctoral works include the Department of Neurobiology as well as in Cell Biology and Physiology. She is a current Associate Professor in the Neuroscience department at a public university teaching Neuroscience courses and running a research lab.  Her previous research expertise includes studying pathways of chemoresistance & epigenetic regulation of genes associated with neurodevelopmental disorders.  Her current research focuses on studying the pathways that regulate communication between neurons & trying to understand how certain neurodegenerative diseases break down this communication.    

Now, pull up a chair & lend an ear as these two old school friends chat openly.  Feel nostalgia as they reminisce.  Catch up.  You’ll hear what they’ve been up to as they tell a bit about their parenting journeys as “mothers of men”.  Become activated with them as they generously share their combined educations, personal histories & tell a story of much importance.  Together again & with Melissa’s assistance, these two scientific minded women have collaborated to gain & share a clearer understanding & spread awareness of adverse childhood effects (ACE’s) & how the DNA is influenced by such. As Angie says: “Epigenetics, trans-generational inheritance: your DNA has a story to be told.  This story is passed down through ancestral lines to affect subsequent generations’ behaviors/traits.” Although this dynamic duo unpack a lot in a short period of time, the listener is sure to leave with a brighter understanding of some basic scientific “proof” that might help society listen a little more, love a little harder & unite to prevent the detrimental effects of ACE’s.  

Although total prevention is key, it is still a long way from this reality. It is hoped that with the continued education offered here, some may find inspiration or ideas of how to survive & not only cope but thrive despite facing their own adversity.  Of course, the gals don’t stop there!  Before leaving the pod, listeners will learn about Angela & her inking style! As always, Tara offers her 26 cents worth as she talks & tells tales of how she herself became a tattooed woman. AGAIN! In the end, someone will learn something because after all, that is the intention.
