Third John gives us a glimpse of the problem of personalities within the church, and three different characters are mentioned in the letter. There was a man called Gaius, to whom this letter was written. There was another man named Diotrephes, and a third man called Demetrius.

These three characters are like the three kinds of Christians found in the church in any age, and like all the letters of the New Testament, 3 John is a very relevant letter for our modern world and at the conclusion of this letter, we can ask ourselves: “Which one of the three characters in 3 John are we most like?”
