On today's episode, I sit down with film composer Mikel Hurwitz. We talk about how hard boiled eggs ruined his childhood, his musical upbringing, and how his experience as a Human rights observer during the 2006 Oaxacan uprising led him to become a composer.
Some of his recent include: Dr. Baseball: Ron Taylor, U.P. There, Gentefied, American Meat, Behind the Dress, Getting By, and, Tiradero al Cielo Abierto. His music has also been featured in national advertising campaigns and international film festivals.
Mikel currently collaborates with Academy Award Nominated and Grammy Winning Composer Danny Elfman (Batman, Nightmare Before Christmas, Fifty Shades of Gray, The Simpsons) as a sound developer; and has recently collaborated with Emmy Nominated Composer Philip Giffin (Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Darkwing Duck), Francis Buckley (Quincy Jones, Aerosmith, Alanis Morrisette); and, Luis Conte (Madonna, James Taylor, Al Di Meola). He holds a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College Berklee College of Music in Film Scoring, where he won best score in the Berklee Academy Awards, and, a B.A. Honors from the University of British Columbia in Political Geography and Latin American Studies.
