"Now I call this the day that I became a man."
Our guest this week is Travis Shakespeare, friend and mentor to host Dan Doty. He is the Director and Executive Producer of a new documentary filmed called Playing with Fire, which follows a couple's journey toward financial independence through a subculture of people who decry the debt-accruing norm of American life. You can find out more about the film here.
He is also an award-winning film and television producer best known for his work showcasing unique individuals and cultures bent on self-actualization and excellence. Credits include the highly acclaimed Emmy®-winning unstructured docu-reality series, Life Below Zero (NatGeo), Top Gear USA (History) & Top Gear America (BBCA), Ice Road Truckers (History) Deadliest Catch (Discovery), The Wild Within (Travel Channel), Gourmet’s Diary of a Foodie and Gourmet’s Adventures with Ruth (both on PBS). Shakespeare’s work has been honored with multiple Emmys® and the 2011 James Beard Award for his work on Gourmet’s Diary of a Foodie.
Travis and Dan dig deep into topics including being a gay man in prototypically straight male environments, connecting with fathers, rites of passage, and how education and literacy is missing in so many crucial areas of life.
Looking for a way to change your life? We have what you're looking for! We're returning to the Berkshires December 7-9 for another Open Source Retreat and we'll be posting an expanded event schedule for 2019 soon!
