Are you Lectin or Lecout, that is the questions.
Lectins have become the latest opposition of healthful diets and more specifically, a vegan diet. Have you ever heard of lectins? Five years ago, you probably hadn’t heard of gluten either, but a “lectin-free” is now being primed by some medical professionals to become the next big thing in diet fads. Move over gluten, move over MSG, and move over soy, there is a new enemy on the chopping block, and lectin be thy name
But this diet, like so many others, appears more fad than factual. According to dietitians, you know, the people who have spent countless years training in nutritional biochemistry and researching human metabolism, propose that foods containing lectins such as grains, particularly whole wheat, beans and legumes, nuts, aubergines, tomatoes, potatoes, and peppers contain lectins and also possess countless health benefits. Addianlly, many people removing these plants form their dies and increasing their protein consumption to avoid lectins. Well guess what, lectins are everywhere including dairy products, and eggs and, meat which doesn’t leave an awful lot left to eat
So what the heck are lectins? Lectins are proteins found in around 30 percent of the foods you eat, such as legumes, peanuts, lentils, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, fruits, and wheat. While there are some toxins in these foods (specifically in foods like raw kidney beans), the cooking process denatures the lectins, meaning they are harmless. There is no evidence to suggest that lectins are the cause of chronic disease or obesity.
