SMART Goals is a concept developed and popularized in 1987 to help people understand business goal concepts. This concept defines the letters of SMART as:
S = Specific - Setting goals that are very specific in their definition is key.
M = Measurable - Goals should be measurable, in such a definative way so you can know when they are complete.
A = Achievable/Attainable - Goals have to be believably achievable. There must be a way to define that done is done. Did I achieve this goal.
R = Realistic; this does not mean easy, but more to the point, not delusional You have to have the ability and the will to achieve the goal.
T = Time-Bound, The goal should have a deadline. Goals Without a Deadline are just Dreams. You must have a time commitment to complete the goal.
The Goal Getting Program uses SMART as the basis for the 9 Steps to Successful Goal Achievement, however, it is not a complete program. It provides the goundwork for Effective Goal Setting.
