Benny Freeman is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. During our conversation, Professor Freeman discusses the origins of membrane science and how it evolved to become a rich field with large scale industrial relevance.  Professor Freeman highlights seminal advances in synthetic membranes, applications including water purification, gas separation, hemodialysis, and drug delivery, along with some elusive challenges remaining in the field.
