(1:08) Ferrari goes digital – The spiritual home of the sports car is giving into its own digital transformation. While each of the 10,000 cars they make per year is almost hand-built, the automaker announced a c-suite shuffle this month that will bring in two new digital transformation executives. Even the connected car experience in a premier sports car needs ecosystem partners and new infrastructure.


(7:47) Round the track at CES – Despite CES being mostly remote yet again due to Covid, plenty of connected car news was made. Qualcomm announced new partners for their digital chassis. Blackberry bricked their old phones but pivoted to their own digital chassis with Chinese partners. NVIDIA’s Drive Orin autonomous platform had some takers. Stellantis will work with Amazon on in-vehicle software. Bosch looks to autonomous and connected car upside.

(16:15) Data is the new….sand? – Digital is the new oil is the mantra of every digital transformation story in the new “Industry 3.0” era. But is it? You can have too much data, and it’s only worth the insight you can get from it. And data is not fungible; Amazon’s data on all of its users is immensely valuable…to Amazon. But it can’t just be handed over to someone else and mined for gold. So we discuss data isn’t the new oil (a fuel and lubricant to higher digitally fueled growth) and more the new sand (Plentiful and useful but only to the feet that tread on it)
