For as long as women have been giving birth (so forever...), the chosen birth place for some has been in the comfort of their proximity of a doctor, an operating theatre and even an neonnatal intensive care unit. 

Why is there such a widespread negative public opinion of homebirth? Why would choose this option if you could be hospital...just in case? Are these our only options and is there a happy medium between the two?
