When we prayed: Miracles of World War II

Episode 1: The Miracle of Dunkirk

Listen Later

By May 1940, almost the entire British armed forces found themselves in retreat - stranded and cut-off on the coast of Northern France, with German tanks advancing towards them on land, Luftwaffe overhead and a 26 mile expanse of water behind them.
The English Channel, which served as such protection for Britain from a land invasion, was now a deadly obstacle blocking her troops' only route to survival.
King George VI called the nation to pray.
This episode tells how that prayer was answered.
