Mark’s Gospel starts with a bang—no long introductions, just straight into the action! John the Baptist shows up in the desert dressed like the prophet Elijah, eating locusts and wild honey, telling everyone to get their hearts ready because someone AMAZING is coming. Then Jesus arrives from the tiny town of Nazareth, and when John baptizes him in the Jordan River, the sky rips open, the Holy Spirit comes down like a dove, and God’s voice booms from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love!” Right away, the Spirit sends Jesus into the wilderness for forty days where he battles Satan and wins. This is the beginning of the best news ever—the rescue mission has started, and Jesus is the King everyone’s been waiting for!
