Episode #10: Cultivating The Software Development Industry in Africa

Listen Later

One of the greatest, under-utilized assets in Africa is its labour force. With a median age of 19.7 years, a proclivity to adopt modern technology when introduced to it, and a growing educational focus on STEM, the future global software development landscape will absolutely include African software engineers.

At the moment, however, software development in Africa is just getting started. Currently, there is an undersupply of technical talent on the continent despite increasing and already strong demand for these skills sets.

To address this, there needs to be more private sector investment into the sector, greater retention of talent on the continent, and continued growth of STEM education.

Today, on our podcast, we have Mike Scott and Ed O'Reilly of Nona Digital, a software development firm utilizing South African engineers to build cutting-edge products used around the world.
