Episode 10: Houston National Flyover
I was selected by the staff of the Commemorative Air Force Flyover Team to be the airboss for a flyover at a funeral at the Houston National Cemetery for a fallen Marine. The task at hand was to coordinate the timing of the flyover with the planes in the air after the ceremony had concluded.
A three ship formation, consisting of an AT6 Texan "Ace In The Hole" from the Houston Wing and also 2 Vans RVs from the Flying Tigers Formation Team, formed up out of West Houston Airport and held over a specific point 3 miles away from the cemetery until I made the call to "run in."
This was a big honor for me, as it was my first time bossing an event like this. As an aviation enthusiast, as well as having a large background in logistics, this falls right into my plate of things that I love. At the end, I was shaking with joy and people had tears in their eyes.
I was able to meet with the family of the deceased afterwards and they were much appreciative of the work that was put into this wonderful event.
