On 10 December 2023, the world marks 75 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a landmark document that enshrines the rights of all human beings. With the anniversary coming at a time of great upheaval and with conflict engulfing many corners of our world, the Universal Declaration is more important than ever, inspiring us to continue working towards ensuring all people can live their lives in freedom, equality and dignity.

For this episode of Musyawarah, Yuyun Wahyuningrum, the 2023 chair of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights, shares her views on how to ensure this 75th anniversary can be a turning point in countering the backsliding of human rights. She also outlines her vision of ASEAN-EU cooperation in the field of human rights, as well as her proposals for how parliamentarians can play their part in the defence of fundamental freedoms.
