Episode 10 Segment 2 - Don't Be a Critic

Listen Later

SHOW NOTES

Today we are going to discuss the least productive and most destructive role you play -- the Critic.

Problem: You have a burning desire to let others know how they are falling short to feed an obsession to show yourself superior.

  • You incorrectly believe tearing others down elevates you
  • You feel empowered when you can critique
  • You strive for perfection and rant when others fail
  • You speak to and about yourself like no one else
  • Possibility: You know the Critic is irrelevant and your true path is from being a consistent producer

    • Others' results have ZERO effect on you
    • Helping others helps you produce more
    • You focus on your progress, not perfection
    • You grant yourself grace and mercy
    • Mindsets:

      • You are better when you help others be better
      • You have as many flaws as anyone
      • Grace and mercy are powerful building blocks
      • Being in the arena is the measure
      • Skillsets:

        • You commit to the "kind word"
        • You speak in the "you can" frame
        • You can discern those trying from those not trying
        • You can speak truth from love

        • MAKE IT STICK

          • Download and print Teddy Roosevelt's "Man in the Arena" speech and hang it up in prominent places in your world (desk, mirror, etc.)
          • Write in your journal how you measure up being the man (or woman) in the arena
          • Write down one thing you are committed to do this week to be more in the arena (seeking success while risking failure)
          • ...more
