That’s just surface-level symbolism. The real message is much heavier, it’s not about a location, it’s about the state of the world of the “soul” (or however, you define it). Doesn’t it say we walk through the valley of the shadow? Well, look around where do you think we are? If you think the “valley” is some distant concept or that evil only lives in dark valleys, then you’re missing the whole point. The truth is, darkness hides in plain sight, and the movie hints at that that the battle is everywhere, even in friendships, even in fame. People are getting exposed, and masks are coming off. The truth doesn’t stay buried forever.
