Transatlantic History Ramblings

Episode 101: The History and Death of The American Circus with Ringmaster Chris Connors

Listen Later

INTERVIEW BEGINS AT:  21:00

Dating back to 1793, the circus has been a part of American tradition, and in 1825, when the concept of the tent circus turned this artform into a traveling show, where folks from miles around would travel for the "greatest show"...in their town, for a brief but exhilarating time every year,

And so it was, year after year, for generations, the circus was the time of year folks couldn't wait for, but that was then.. Animal rights activists protesting the treatment of the animal performers, (rightly so in some, but not all cases),and so many other available forms of entertainment replaced the big top,  But the rich history of this artform still holds a place in many hearts and minds and will never truly die.

Ringmaster Chris Connors of the famous Clyde Beatty Cole Bros. Circus joins us to discuss the history, and demise of the circus, and his legacy and that of the ultimate American form of entertainment

So kick back, enjoy and please rate and share the show..let's keep the audience growing. Thank you all
