Excerpts from the August 31 public hearing and meeting of the Sarasota County Commission, during which the commission approved a new 5,000-home development on rural land in eastern Sarasota County, to be called Lakewood Ranch Southeast. The land had previously been designated for hamlet development, which would have allowed for about 1,600 homes.
