1. Joy is exceeding gladness of heart - the Internal quality based on your Eternal Reality (a Fruit of the Spirit, after all)
a. Joy is the thermostat that sets the conditions for living the Christian life!
2. Joy motivates the Christian Life!
a. Joy motivates Worship – rejoicing is opening your mouth to let out what is overflowing from the inner fountain!
i. Walk through the Psalms – Psalm 16:11; 32:10-11; 33:1; 68:2-3; 98
b. Joy motivates Service – Psalm 100:1-5
i. Joy-filled servants are fun to watch…and, to serve with!
ii. They don’t serve to get joy, but because they have it.
c. Joy motivates Sacrifice – Hebrews 12:1-3
i. Hebrews 12:2 – The Joy of Jesus was based on His ability to confidently walk in the Pleasure of His Father.
3. Joy is contagious (among God’s People). – Philippians 2:1-2; 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20 ; 3:9
a. Think of the most joyful people you know
b. What happens when you are with them? Joy!
c. 3 John 4!
d. Paul, in a Roman prison – Philippians 1:4, 18; 3:1; 4:4, 10 – The Epistle of Joy
4. How’s your Joy? Again, it is essential to realize that JOY begins with surrendering your life to Christ – A, B, C!
a. A Fruit of the Spirit!
