Living The Fruit-Filled Life
The PEACE that passes Understanding
John 14:27; 16:33
PEACE: The Peace that passes Understanding
Shalom – Peace – not just the absence of conflict, but a completeness or wholeness – the idea of resting in God… being at Peace!
I. Jesus is our Source of Peace
a. John 14:27
b. John 16:33 – regardless of our situation
c. Luke 2:10-14 to 24:36 – His Birth to His Resurrection!
d. Know Jesus; Know Peace
e. No Jesus; No Peace – This means…
II. We experience Peace with God through Salvation
a. Romans 5:1
b. Testimony
III. We experience The Peace of God through Trust & Thanksgiving
a. Philippians 4:6-7
b. Isaiah 26:3 - Purpose firm & Trust in You
c. Perfect Peace is like ‘The Cushion of the Sea’ – Streams in the Desert – Oct 20
IV. We experience not just the Peace of God; but, the God of Peace through Faithfulness
a. Faithful thinking – Philippians 4:8
i. Romans 8:5-7
b. Faithful living – Phil 4:9
c. Hebrews 13:20-21 - Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Romans 8:5 - For those who live according to the
flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot.
Cushion of the Sea – Streams in the Desert – Oct 20
There is a part of the sea known as “the cushion of the sea.” It lies beneath the surface that is agitated by storms and churned by the wind. It is so deep that it is a part of the sea that is never stirred. When the ocean floor in these deep places is dredged of the remains of plant or animal life, it reveals evidence of having remained completely undisturbed for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. The peace of God is an eternal calm like the cushion of the sea. It lies so deeply within the human heart that no external difficulty or disturbance can reach it. And anyone who enters the presence of God becomes a partaker of that undisturbed and undisturbable calm.
