Deep beneath the juniper and sage of Central Oregon is a layer of volcanic basalt laid down millennia ago by the volcanoes of the Cascades. Within this expanse, hidden caverns that once channeled flows of molten lava spiral on for miles, only breaking the surface in a few locations.
