The path to success is paved with obstacles and challenges. Whether you're striving for a personal or professional goal, you must be willing to fail in order to achieve that goal. It's not enough to just desire success; it takes courage, persistence, and a willingness to embrace failure as a learning opportunity.
When my son was little I bought him a Michael Jordan print with this quote, “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
The print still hangs above his desk at home as a constant reminder that success is found through repeated failure.
Here are a few tips for embracing failure:
1. Learn from your mistakes. Every failure is an opportunity to learn and grow. Take the time to reflect on what you could have done differently and how you can improve next time.
2. Don't let failure hold you back. It's important to remember that failure is a natural part of the process. Don't let it discourage you from pursuing your goals. Instead, use it as motivation to keep going. Also, don't give up too early. It may take many attempts before you succeed.
3. Seek guidance. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Seeking guidance from someone who has been through a similar experience can provide valuable insight.
4. Trust your instincts. Trusting your gut instinct can be the difference between success and failure. If something doesn't feel right, don't be afraid to adjust your approach. This is something I often lean into.
5. Embrace the journey. Success is a journey, not a destination. Embrace the process and be open to the lessons that failure can teach you. As long as you keep moving forward, success will come.
Remember, failure is not the end. It's an opportunity to learn, grow, and eventually succeed. As Thomas Edison once famously said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." So, stay persistent, stay motivated, and embrace failure as a natural part of the process.
