Addiction doesn’t always look the same. It might be drugs or alcohol, but it can also be pornography, gambling, anger, control, or even approval. These are all forms of bondage that take root in the heart and begin to control a person’s thoughts, emotions, and relationships. And often, the family carries the weight of that bondage. The lies, the disappointments, the broken trust — they wear everyone down. I’ve counseled so many wives and mothers who are exhausted from living in the shadow of addiction. They love deeply but feel helpless to change what’s happening.
