Episode 109: "Celebrate Yourself"

Listen Later

“Celebrate Yourself”

As an entrepreneur, one of the things that trips me up often is not allowing myself to enjoy or celebrate an accomplishment.

Always thinking, “I could have done that better”, “it’s not a big deal, I am supposed to be able to do that” or “that was nice, but what’s next?”

I believe that If you continue to accomplish goals and downplay their significance, you will eventually run out of desire and ambition to accomplish future goals.

There is no doubt that staying hungry is a huge part of success, but so is allowing yourself a moment to reflect on your greatness.

In an interview I watched today:

Ed Mylett said…

“You are perfect how you exist right now… but that version of you isn’t sufficient next year”

To me, this is giving us permission to celebrate ourselves for all that we have accomplished, while knowing there is much more ahead.

I believe we get too caught up in not allowing ourselves to celebrate our own accomplishments that we never truly accept our individual greatness.

In Brian Moran’s book “The 12 Week Year”. He suggests breaking your year down into 12 weeks by setting short term goals for superior long term results.

He also suggests celebrating each 12 week year as you would a full year.

If you meet your goals in those 12 weeks, he recommends taking a vacation or buying yourself that watch you have been wanting.

This enables you to celebrate your achievements as you get ready for the next round of goals.

It is not an ending point but a checkpoint, to remind you that you have been making progress.

As Mylett said, although your present version of yourself is just right, it is not as good as the future version of yourself will be.

So don’t be afraid to celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small.

Celebrate yourself knowing that you are perfect where you are right now.

But…

Next year’s version will be that much better!
