Episode #11: Developing Africa's Labour Market

Listen Later

The labour market in Africa is unique, to say the least.

With a median age of 19, fragmented market data, and a growing connected consumer base, technology startups and various other business types, for that matter, have a hard time recruiting and expanding operational capacity.

As explored in our previous episode, there is currently an opportunity to steer the jobs market toward software engineering.

However, it's not just as easy as increasing the stock of software developers in the continent. Instead, there needs to be a simultaneous development of better market infrastructure, specifically catering to the labour market's demand side, alongside advances in human capital.

Gebeya, an EdTech and jobs marketplace company, was built to address this. By increasing the visibility and access to local developers - as opposed to outsourcing tech talent - African tech companies have a better chance at scaling.

In today's episode, we speak with Gebeya's CEO and Co-Founder, Amadou Daffe, about Africa's evolving labour market and the components needed for its efficient development.

If you would like to get in touch with Gebeya, please feel free to contact them here.
