Episode 11: Elizabeth, what are you doing loca?

Listen Later

Elizabeth Bathory's story is one you may not be able to forget! Born into Hungarian nobility in the late 16th century, she married young at 14 and took over managing her husband's estate while he was off at war.  She became infamous for her brutal treatment of servants and was rumored to have tortured and killed hundreds of young girls, believing that bathing in their blood would keep her young. Even with all the evidence piling up against her, she was never really put on trial; instead, she ended up under house arrest in a remote castle, where she died in 1614. Her legend lives on, mixing horror and vampirism, and continues to captivate writers and filmmakers today!
