In the final part of
Batavia’s Graveyard, Francisco Pelsaert returns from Java aboard the
Sardam to find that Jeronimus Cornelisz has led a reign of terror, murdering more than 216 men, women and children. Only the courage of Wiebe Hayes and his band of survivors, who fought off repeated attacks by the mutineers, prevents Cornelisz from seizing the rescue ship. Cornelisz and his followers are arrested and brutally executed, bringing one of the darkest and most shocking true stories in maritime history to its dramatic end.
