The majority of my guests are entrepreneurs that have raised millions in funding for their startup but James and his company Top Notch Cinema are the exception. He started the company a couple years ago with a business partner and not only were they profitable in their first full year (which is hard to do) but they did almost $1 million in their second year and they still have not taken any outside funding.
Top Notch Cinema has created high-quality professional and promotional videos for over 100 companies including Four Seasons, Bonobos, Plated, Daily Mail, Dollar Shave Club, Venmo and T-Mobile. Their videos can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $75,000 depending on the amount of production, editing and special effects required.
In this interview I spoke with Jame Orfanos, the co-founder of Top Notch Cinema about why he started the company, why he's also running his family's martial arts business at the same time, what it takes to grow a company to $1 million in revenue while bootstrapping, how to hire and keep talent, his favorite clients to work with, why he loves being in NYC, when humor should be used in company videos, what it takes to make a video go viral, how their clients leverage the videos for more exposure, why videos are ideal for employee training, what's next for the company and much more.
Thanks for listening.
