Roland Emmerich: A director whose career is marked by huge aspirations, enormous spectacle, and an amazing track record of success considering no one admits liking his work. Clint Eastwood is still mistakenly thought of as a genius for making sloppy, boring biographical dramas, but Roland Emmerich's genius is all but ignored despite a filmography that includes the destruction of the Earth FOUR TIMES.

Is he formulaic? Yes. Is his dialogue laughably stupid? You betcha. But he's a B movie filmmaker with A movie budgets. And you can't deny the ambition of an artist whose oeuvre extends from 10000 BC to the day after tomorrow.
