My personal preference is the grade used by Cracker Barrel Grade B Amber bottled in St. Johnsbury, VT. What’s unique about St Johnsbury is it’s the last Vermont town in America.  When I was growing up my mother's preferred brand of commercial syrup was Vermont Maid. It did not claim to be maple syrup it was much too dark. But it had a pleasant taste and a strong “maple” flavor.Of course the ultimate consumer of things Maple is Bob Newhart’s boyhood friend the old peeper Cliff Murdock who drenched his Steak & Oysters in Maple Syrup, Yum.  FYI/since I wrote this pre-pandemic hard times have befallen Cracker Barrel’s supplier — the most recent production is still labeled 100% Maple Syrup but may contain an amount of cane sugar.
