Prayers of lament live in the tension between real suffering and real hope. To lament is to hang on to both realities without belittling the value of either. Mentioned are passages of Scripture from Lamentations and the Psalms. The writers of Scripture were not aloof from the presence of injustice, but rather injustice was all around them all the time.
