The Change Lead

Episode 12 - Leading through an acquisition - Part 2 | The buyer in an acquisition

Listen Later

Hello and welcome. This is Babatope Ipinyomi from The Change Lead, and welcome to episode 12 of “The Change Lead” podcast.

In 1999 Vodafone acquired Mannesmann at a deal value of $203 Billion. The deal made Vodafone the world’s largest mobile operator – at the time. In 2014 Facebook acquired WhatsApp for $22 Billion. Time has proven this to be a good acquisition by Facebook.

Acquisitions don’t always go to plan. In the year 2000, we had the mega merger of AOL and Time Warner for a deal value of $350 Billion. This deal is now the textbook example of how NOT to acquire and merge businesses.

Are you a leader in a business looking to grow through acquisition? An acquisition can bring significant benefits to your business. However, an acquisition will introduce risks to your business. What if you could stack the odds in your favour?

This episode is the second in a four-part series on leading through an acquisition. If you have not yet listened to the first part, I recommend you listen to episode 11 as well. In this episode we will look at the buyer's perspective of what goes on during an acquisition from the exploration phase up till transaction close.
