In late February 2023, there was a public event at the Dalai Lama’s temple in Dharamshala, which was attended by about 100 young students who had just graduated from the Indian M3M Foundation. Shortly after this event, the Dalai Lama came under fire and faced allegations of inappropriate behaviour after kissing a young boy on the lips and asking him to “suck his tongue” at the same event.
In our first virtual dinner, BRKIN Bread, host Sabrina Clarke is rejoined by Cherie, Jason and Mala to discuss the very important, sensitive and pressing subject of inappropriate behaviour from adults towards children. The Dalai Lama has since apologised for his behaviour, and it is important to note the outcry came only from the West. What does this incident say about how we as a global community look out for and treat children – who are often the most vulnerable among us? Was the Dalai Lama’s behaviour a mistake or molestation? Who decides the answer? It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child, but who and what will it take to protect them?
Cherie, Jason and Mala are BRKIN Bread Guests for Episodes 10, 11 and 12.
BRKIN Bread Episode 13 premieres on Wednesday, 12 July 2023 at 7pm BST/2pm EST
