In today’s episode, Kara and Kylie are talking about the differences between yo-yo dieting and periodized nutrition.

Many individuals get confused when they hear that they have to go through phases of gaining and losing weight, even when they are doing it the right way, and they wonder how this differs from the rebound weight-gain they have seen from their own yo-yo dieting in the past. Kara and Kylie break it down for their listeners! 

Yo-yo dieting is when someone is in and out of multiple dieting phases throughout the year; things like crash diets and restricting yourself in the week only to go all out on the weekends. It’s a cycle of under-eating and over-eating. There is no sustainability in this method of weight loss.

Periodized nutrition means you are placing yourself into different phases with a specific goal in mind, and through a strategic and healthy process. It’s important to understand that you can’t diet forever. For Kara and Kylie, and their clients, it’s typically a process of reversing, maintaining, and cutting (and growing, for those who wish to do so!). 

Conditioning your body is not an instant gratification practice. It takes time and investment to see changes.
