When I'm asked what kind of music I like, I typically say, "Everything".
But that isn't really true...
Although I listen to genres like punk rock, 80's, Blues, classical etc.
I don't like ALL music.
For instance, if you asked me if I liked country music, I'd tell you, "No".
The reality though, is that I do like some country songs, just not as a whole genre.
Mainly because I don't like most country songs.
But we should be careful throwing out blanket statements of things we don't like... that could prevent us from learning.
This was brought to my attention today when I was asked if I like "Scream-O" music, basically death metal with a background singer that just screams.
I said "no".
But when the song started to play, the lyrics caught me off guard and really spoke to where I am at in life and where I want to go.
Crazy right?
Had I said, "no, I don't like this music and I don't want to listen to it", I would have never learned this valuable lesson today.
Don't prevent yourself from learning because of your biases, you never know where you might come across...
