Ramon Rubio de Castro

Ramon Castro is an innovative water-sector professional with more than a decade of international experience spanning engineering, desalination, and strategic consulting. He is the Founder and Host of The Water MBA, a global knowledge platform and community empowering water professionals through interviews, insights, and audiovisual content. Since launching in 2023, Ramon has produced over 80 expert-led episodes and articles, grown a 13,000+ member LinkedIn community, and developed a subscription-based learning service that delivers fresh knowledge monthly.

Alongside his role with The Water MBA, Ramon serves as an Advisor and Consultant with Aquasory, providing strategic guidance and third-eye analysis to clients navigating critical project decisions.

Ramon also leads on the corporate front at Innovative Water Applications Co. (IWAC), where he has held multiple leadership roles across engineering and project management. He currently heads both the Civil Engineering and Technical Office departments, after previously serving as Proposal Manager and Engineering Coordinator for large-scale desalination and water infrastructure projects in the MENA region—including the 600,000 m³/day Rabigh 4 IWP in Saudi Arabia.

Earlier in his career, Ramon spent nearly a decade at Abengoa, managing cost estimation, tendering, and engineering coordination for multi-billion-dollar desalination and water treatment plants worldwide. He contributed to landmark projects such as the 900 MLD Taweelah RO in Abu Dhabi, the Shuaibah III RO Expansion in Saudi Arabia, and the Jebel Ali RO in Dubai.

His expertise covers the full project lifecycle—tendering, engineering, and delivery—across desalination, wastewater treatment, potable water, industrial effluent, and large-scale transmission and distribution systems. He has worked on projects across the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Europe, serving government entities, EPC contractors, developers, concessionaires, and international financial institutions.
